LV facts:
Amalgamation history:
The Township of Laurentian Valley is an incorporated township in Renfrew County created in 2000 through the amalgamation of the former Township of Stafford-Pembroke with the former Township of Alice & Fraser. Upon amalgamation the duties of Reeve were shared being rotated throughout the year between Jack Wilson (former Reeve of the Township of Stafford-Pembroke) and Kellard Witt (former Reeve of the Township of Alice and Fraser).
In 1997, the former Township of Stafford and the former Township of Pembroke amalgamated having shared municipal office facilities and municipal staff already for many years while maintaining separate Municipal Councils. The three former municipalities had a history of shared services being partners in the Tri-Township Fire Department, now known as the Laurentian Valley Fire Department. Jack Wilson became the first Mayor of the Township of Laurentian Valley when the Head of Council position changed from Reeve to Mayor.
