FACILITY MANAGER - ALICE & FRASER RECREATION CENTRE

 DESCRIPTION:

The Alice & Fraser Recreation Association is hiring one (1) Part-Time position. 

Location: Alice & Fraser Recreation Centre, 1 Henan Road
Job Type: Part-Time
Reports To: Alice & Fraser Recreation Association
Rate of Pay: $22 - $25/hour, Up to 40 hours/week

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Facility Manager is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and scheduling of community recreational facilities, including outdoor ice rink, ball diamonds, community hall, horse arena, and beach volleyball court. This role ensures all facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained while overseeing hall rentals and coordinating with community groups, vendors, and contractors.  This position reports to the volunteer-led Alice & Fraser Recreation Centre Association. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility and Grounds Maintenance

  • Perform routine and seasonal maintenance of grounds, including lawn care, snow removal, and landscaping.

  • Ensure cleanliness (including litter pick-up/garbage removal), safety, and accessibility of outdoor and indoor recreational areas.

  • Perform minor building repairs.

  • Janitorial duties as needed.

Outdoor Rink Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain ice resurfacing equipment (Zamboni).

  • Monitor ice quality and perform ice making, edging, flooding, and repairs as needed.

  • Prepare rink surface for off-season activities (i.e. sweeping).

  • Schedule rink usage and coordinate with user groups.

Ball Diamond Maintenance

  • Prepare and maintain ball diamonds including dragging infields, lining fields, and mowing.

  • Inspect and maintain dugouts, fencing, and lighting.

  • Schedule field usage and coordinate with leagues and user groups.

Hall Rental and Facility Bookings

  • Manage all hall rental bookings including inquiries, scheduling, contracts, and payments.
  • Ensure rental agreements comply with municipal policies and insurance requirements.
  • Oversee hall setup and takedown for events; coordinate custodial and maintenance staff as needed.
  • Stock bar and schedule/coordinate bartenders.
  • Stock canteen as needed. Maintenance of canteen equipment/appliances. 

Horse Arena and Volleyball Court Maintenance

  • Prepare and maintain horse arena and beach volleyball court including dragging surfaces.
  • Schedule usage and coordinate with user groups.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain any maintenance logs, inspections, etc.
  • Assist with budgeting for maintenance supplies and capital improvements.
  • Supervise seasonal and part-time staff as required.
  • Communicate with municipal departments and Alice & Fraser Recreation Association  regarding facility usage and issues.
  • Coordinate contractors who are doing work on-site.
  • Report hall booking information to the Alice & Fraser Recreation Association quarterly.
  • Maintain/track bar inventories, consumables, cash floats. 
  • Forward expenses, invoices to Alice & Fraser Recreation Association Treasurer.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in facility or grounds maintenance, would be an asset.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Knowledge of ice maintenance practices and equipment (e.g., Zamboni) would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.  Some computer skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience managing rental contracts and dealing with the public would be an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to operate light machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical activity including lifting, bending, operating machinery, and standing for extended periods is required.
  • On-call duties during peak seasons or emergency maintenance needs may be expected.
