Conservation is a key part of the province's effort to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and build a clean, reliable, modern energy system. As a result, public agencies are now required to:
- Report their annual energy use and GHG emissions to the Ministry of Energy as of July 1, 2013
- Develop five-year energy conservation and demand management (CDM) plans by July 1, 2014
Energy reporting and conservation planning will help us:
- manage electricity use and costs;
- identify best practices and energy-saving opportunities;
- evaluate results by comparing to similar facilities across the province;
- assist in setting goals by providing a benchmark; and
- measure improvement over time
The Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan will outline:
- conservation goals and objectives;
- proposed conservation measures;
- estimated costs and benefits; and
- any renewable energy installations
Energy Conservation & Demand Management Plans
Regulation 397/11 requires public agencies to prepare, publish, make available to the public and implement energy conservation and demand management plans.
