Notice of Nomination for Office

Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (s.32)

Notice is hereby given to the Municipal Electors of the Township of Laurentian Valley that nomination papers for the 2018 Municipal Election may be filed in person or by an agent with the Returning Officer during regular business hours between May 1, 2018 and July 26, 2018 and between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on July 27, 2018 (Nomination Day). The Nomination Form must be accompanied by the filing fee: $200.00 for the Office of Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices. Payment may be made by cash, debit, certified cheque, or money order. There is a new requirement that each Nomination (excluding School Board Trustee candidates) be endorsed by at least 25 eligible electors. Individuals endorsing the candidate must sign a declaration stating they are eligible to vote in the municipality on the day they signed the endorsement.

Registration papers for third party advertisers must be signed by a representative and may be filed in the Office of the Clerk in person or by any agent during regular business hours from May 1, 2018 up to and including October 19, 2018. Registration papers along with a Declaration of Qualification must be certified by the Clerk before such entity becomes a Certified Third Party Advertiser.

  • Mayor - 1
  • Reeve - 1
  • Councillor - 5

School Board Offices for Which Persons May Be Nominated:

  • English Public School Trustee - 1
  • English Separate School Trustee - 1
  • French Public School Trustee - 1 *File with the Town of Petawawa
  • French Separate School Trustee - 1 *File with the Town of Petawawa

Information for Candidates

Nomination

Beginning May 1, 2018 nomination forms will be available and will be accepted by completing and filing, in the Office of the Clerk, on the prescribed nomination form and accompanied by the nomination filing fee of:

  • Head of Council – $200.00
  • All other positions – $100.00

The filing fee is payable by debit, cash, and certified cheque/money order. The candidate must provide proof of qualifying address within the Township of Laurentian Valley.

Information for voters

Beginning May 1, 2018 nominations will be accepted at the Township of Laurentian Valley for the offices of:

  • Mayor - 1 position to be elected at large
  • Reeve - 1 position to be elected at large
  • Councillor - 5 positions to be elected at large

  • Trustee for Renfrew County District School Board (English Public) – 1 position elected at large

Area: Township of Laurentian Valley & Township of North Algona  Wilberforce

  • Trustee for Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (English Catholic) – 1 position elected at large

Area: Township of Laurentian Valley, Township of Admaston/Bromley, Township of North Algona Wilberforce & the Township of Bonnechere Valley

Who can vote?

A person is entitled to vote in the Township of Laurentian Valley municipal election if he or she on voting day:

  • Resides in the Township of Laurentian Valley, or is the owner or tenant of land in the Township of Laurentian Valley, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • Is a Canadian citizen, and
  • Is at least 18 years old, and
  • Is not prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise prohibited by law.

All voters will be required to present a prescribed proof of identity and residence in order to receive a ballot at their voting location. Voters who cannot present an acceptable proof of identity and residence will have to make a statutory declaration.

Make sure your name is on the voters' list by contacting the Municipal Office at 613-735-6291.

If your name is not on the voters' list, the information is incorrect, or you are no longer eligible to vote in the Township of Laurentian Valley; please fill out the attached Form EL15 Application to Amend the Voters' List and file in person at the Municipal Office or by mail by including a copy of a government photo ID:
