In Ontario, the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, R.S.O. 1990, sets out the emergency management requirements for all municipalities in Ontario. Having an Emergency Plan and identifying a Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) and Emergency Management Program Committee are some of those requirements, along with annual requirements for training, public education, exercises and hazards identification and risk assessment (HIRA).

When an emergency occurs in the Township, the Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) gathers (is activated) to direct the response.
