We are pleased to announce the upgrading of playground surfacing from sand to accessible engineered wood fiber (EWF) at 3 play structures located at Stafford Park located at 641 Third Ave South in Laurentian Valley!

The Township would like to recognize the generous in-kind contributions of Greg Splinter of GP Splinter Forest Products who donated equipment and staff to complete the project of removing the sand and installing the EWF accessible surfacing at the play structures.

The upgrade to EWF surfacing will allow those using mobility aids ease of maneuverability in comparison to the existing sand surface and will also preserve the life of the splash pad located at Stafford Park as sand was being put on the splash pad to play resulting in some damage to the mechanics of the infrastructure.

Chair of Stafford Park Committee, Tim Sutcliffe is grateful to Mr. Splinter for his generous donations and says “Stafford Park has seen some great improvements in the past 5 years which have brought out more families and youth to enjoy the features of the park and this new playground surfacing will now make it so that even more people can use the park, which is what we like to see!”. Mayor Steve Bennett echoed Mr. Sutcliffs staements and would also like to thank Mr. Splinter and his company for his “continued support and effort to make Lurentian Valley a better place live work and play!”

The replacement of the playground surface is one of many projects scheduled for 2024 at Staffard Park with work scheduled  for this Spring/Summer to include the addition of new netting around the ball diamond as well as the addition of 3 new water play features on the splash pad!

Stafford Park is maintained by the volunteers of the Stafford Park Committee. A big thank you to our volunteers who dedicate their time to Laurentian Valley Recreation!
