Graphic announcing the new Doggy Paddle event details.

Organized by the Upper Ottawa River Race

For immediate release

A new “hyper-local” paddling event, the Doggy Paddle, is taking place in Petawawa at Petawawa Point Beach on August 21st, 2021.  This event encourages local paddlers and their furry friends to get out on the water for a great cause.  The Doggy Paddle is a fundraiser in support of the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre.

Participants of this paddle event can canoe with their canine, kayak with their kitten or SUP with their pup.  Paddling with fellow two-legged friends is also permitted.  Interested paddlers will be able to navigate a group guided 5 km or 10 km route departing from and returning to Petawawa Point. Life jackets are recommended for both humans and animal paddlers.

This event has been organized by the representatives of the Upper Ottawa River Race and Paddle Festival (UORRPF).  While the UORRPF has had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021, due to travel and gathering restrictions, the organizers did want to provide some form of “hyper-local” paddle opportunity.  The Town of Petawawa, City of Pembroke and new partner, Township of Laurentian Valley, all benefit from the services and care offered by the local Ontario SPCA and Human Society Animal Centre.  Teaming up in support of our furry besties seems a natural fit.
