Township of Laurentian Valley
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 25, 2019
The Township of Laurentian Valley is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $148,000 Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The funds are being used to build a Splash Pad at Stafford Park. Owned by the Township, Stafford Park is the ideal location for a splash pad being in a neighbourhood of mainly young families. Being the only splash pad within the municipality, it will benefit residents and neighbouring municipalities.
Accessibility and encouraging an active lifestyle for all is an ongoing Township goal. The Township is excited to soon offer a recreation infrastructure that will be enjoyed by children and their caretakers. “When outdoor public recreational facilities are properly designed, located, and maintained, they improve the quality of life of a community. A splash pad will offer an exciting, new play and social opportunity in a safe and enticing way with more accessibility for children of all ages and abilities” states Mayor Steve Bennett.
Construction of the splash pad by ABC Recreation Ltd. started Monday, June 24, 2019 on the north side of Stafford Park across from the ball diamond. The family friendly splash pad will feature 16 spray features covering a 2187 sq. ft. area. The splash pad will include accessible age-progressive play areas throughout the site that will be spaced out in a manner that will allow for greater safety and easier supervision.
While contractors aim to minimize the impacts of construction, Stafford Park patrons and nearby residents can expect some dust, noise and truck traffic in the area. Visitors to the park are asked to observe fencing and barriers and ensure children remain a safe distance from the construction site. The play structures and ball diamond will remain accessible during construction.
The grand opening of the Splash Pad is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:00 am at Stafford Park located at 341 Third Ave South in Laurentian Valley. The Stafford Park splash pad is free to use and will be open 7 days a week from 9 am – 8 pm.
