Community Improvement Plan Grants and Programs Available for Business Owners

The Township of Laurentian Valley has adopted a Community Improvement Plan to help guide the Township of Laurentian Valley’s revitalization efforts by encouraging the rehabilitation and improvement of privately held lands throughout the Township. The CIP adopted by Council in 2019, established a package of grant programs to stimulate revitalization of the Township’s commercial areas and add value to existing agricultural uses and rural tourism areas.  Council recently adopted an amendment to the Community Improvement Plan to add an additional grant category for businesses to undertake improvements to meet COVID-19 health & safety recommendations and enable them to reopen or increase business operations.   The last day for appeal on the new category is August 19, 2020 so the Township will make applications available and start receiving applications on August 20, 2020.

The amendment to the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) will enable the Township to give financial incentives to business owners through a matching 50% grant for eligible expenditures on improvements/construction related to COVID-19 public health and safety improvements, up to a maximum grant of $5000.00. It is intended that the grant would retroactively cover eligible costs incurred retroactive to March 17, 2020, the beginning of the Provincial Emergency declaration due to COVID-19.   The lands affected by the Community Improvement Plan include the entire Township.

A consolidated copy of the Community Improvement Plan which includes the new category, as well as information on the other grant categories and programs can be downloaded from this website.  Business Owners who are interested in applying for any of the grant categories in the CIP should review the document to prepare to file an application as of August 20, 2020, when they will be receive on a first-come-first-serve basis until all of the funds are allocated.
