UPPER OTTAWA VALLEY OPP REMIND MOTORISTS - MOVE OVER. LEAVE A LANE. IT’S THE LAW.
(PEMBROKE, ON) – With the winter driving season fully upon us the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind all motorists of the law that requires drivers to slow down and proceed with caution when approaching an emergency vehicle or tow truck parked on the side of a highway with its lights activated. Drivers are required to move over and leave one lane between their vehicle and the emergency vehicle when it can be done safely. Failing to do so can result in fines from $400 to $2000 and three demerit points for a first offence. All drivers need to know the law and do their part to keep our emergency workers in the Upper Ottawa Valley safe. Slow down and move over when possible as you approach emergency vehicles parked on the side of the highway.
