December 15 - Stolen Vehicle Recovered After Search Warrant

(PETAWAWA, ON) – On the morning of December 12, 2017 members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after a commercial delivery van was reported stolen during the overnight hours from the gated outdoor storage area of Smitty’s Home Hardware on Pembroke Street West in Laurentian Valley Township.  The van contained a quantity of building supplies.    
On December 13, 2017 the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a Criminal Code (CC) search warrant at a residence on Petawawa Boulevard in the Town of Petawawa.  The stolen van and building supplies were recovered by police.
As a result 44-year-old Krista Jeanine FOSTER and 43-year-old Joshua Christopher ATKINSON, both of Petawawa, were arrested and are each facing the following CC and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) charges:
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana
FOSTER also faces an additional CC charge of failing to comply with her probation order.  She was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on February 13, 2018.
In relation to the incident at Smitty’s Home Hardware ATKINSON also faces the following CC charges:
  • Break, enter and commit an indicatable offence
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Theft over $5000
He was also arrested and charged by police for the following CC, Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) offences in relation to a single vehicle collision at Boundary Road and Crandall Street in Pembroke on December 6, 2017:
  • Driving while disqualified (CC)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (CC)
  • Driving while under suspension (HTA)
  • Fail to remain (HTA)
  • Fail to report accident (HTA)
  • Operate unsafe vehicle (HTA)
  • Drive motor vehicle, no plates (HTA)
  • Drive motor vehicle, no permit (HTA)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance (CAIA)
He was also arrested and charged by police for the following CC charges in relation to an incident at a residence in Pembroke in early November 2017:
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats  - two counts
He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until his next scheduled appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice on December 20, 2017.
