(PEMBROKE, ON) – On the evening of July 24, 2018 members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a robbery, involving violence with an edged weapon, in the parking lot of a business on Pembroke Street East in the City of Pembroke.  The suspect, who stole property from a victim, fled prior to police arrival.  Three victims, an adult female and two adult males, were identified by police.  Property belonging to a victim was damaged and threats were also made to the victims and a pet of one of the victims.  The suspect and the victims were known to each other.  The victim who was assaulted sustained non-life threatening injuries.   
As a result of this incident 38-year-old Marty Lowell MATTHEWS, of Whitewater Region Township, is facing the following Criminal Code charges:
  • Robbery with violence
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Utter threats to cause death or bodily harm – three counts
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Utter threats to injure/kill animal
The accused was arrested on July 31, 2018 and held for a bail hearing.  He remains in custody until his next appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on August 2, 2018.
