The Township of Laurentian Valley, in partnership with the Town of Petawawa, the City of Pembroke, and The Township of North Algona - Wilberforce, is committed to the implementation of new diversion facilities to reduce the disposal of solid waste through landfilling and to provide a cost effective and environmentally friendly long-term waste management system.

The facilities, which include a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), a Central Composting Facility, and a Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Facility, is located at the (former) Alice & Fraser Landfill Site located in the Township of Laurentian Valley, approximately two hours north west of the National Capital.

The proposed waste management system is expected to increase the diversion rate in this combined urban/rural service area to approximately 65%, well above the 50% provincial objective.
