COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN (CIP)
COMMUNITY WORKSHOP – OPEN HOUSE

To be held at the Shady Nook Recreation Centre
80 Richardson Crescent, Laurentian Valley, Ontario
on Thursday January 17, 2019
From 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm

The Township of Laurentian Valley has initiated a new project, being the Community Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP will be used to promote the revitalization, beautification and improvement of the Township’s commercial and agricultural/rural areas. The Community Improvement Project Area (CIPA) will extend throughout all of Laurentian Valley.

The project team wants to meet with property owners in the Township and in particular, owners of properties where commercial/industrial businesses are operated or proposed, including farm and rural businesses, to discuss potential incentives for the CIP.

A CIP is a municipal tool that can implement a package of grant programs to stimulate revitalization of the Township’s commercial areas and add value to existing agricultural uses and rural tourism areas.

As part of this project, the team will conduct a workshop to confirm the direction for the CIP and further discuss potential incentives programs. The workshop will include a brief presentation and facilitated discussion.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN?
Community improvement planning is one of the many sustainable community planning tools found in the Planning Act that can help municipalities address global challenges and resident’s future needs as it provides a means of planning and financing development activities that effectively use, reuse and restore lands, buildings and infrastructure.

WHY IS A COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN A GOOD TOOL?
Community Improvement Plans have been integral in supporting and encouraging neighbourhood revitalization improvements in the Province of Ontario. The CIP will serve as a long-term framework that will direct and guide community improvements through financial incentives and municipally-driven projects.  The CIP is used as a tool to stimulate reinvestment and development.  CIPs are currently in place in other communities in Renfrew County including the City of Pembroke, the Township of Whitewater Region, Renfrew and Arnprior.

The session will start with an Open House Session that will provide participants with an introduction to the Community Improvement Plan process and then move into a workshop forum where participants will participate by helping to identify and discuss opportunities and constraints to a CIP for the Township.
